At The FirstPort Group, we are proud to support colleagues with their career progression.
This month marks 11 years since Michelle first joined FirstPort’s Customer Service team. From early on, she swiftly moved up, taking on more senior roles and eventually using her skills to form a specialist team to assist with insurance claims.
This was a turning point, allowing Michelle to build her expertise and carve out a niche within the company. Her approach to learning and career development has been proactive and self-driven.
She said: “When we first started the claims team, there wasn’t really anyone within the business with specialist knowledge.
“So, I built my knowledge by asking the right questions to the right people, like brokers and loss adjusters.”
This hands-on experience, coupled with her willingness to learn, prepared her for more significant challenges. Two years ago, Michelle was promoted to Team Leader, a role that further expanded her responsibilities.
She now oversees insurance claims, renewals, reinstatement cost assessments and various support teams.
To support this transition, Michelle enrolled in the Corndel leadership and management programme, which is something she is proud to have accomplished.
Michelle said: “I’m due to finish in October, and it’s been useful. It’s helped me grow my confidence, especially in public speaking and presentations, which were never my forte.”
Despite her many accomplishments, Michelle remains humble about her career progression, adding: “I’m quite happy where I am. I enjoy the role I’m in, especially the more complex claims and major incidents, and my team is great.
“There’s always something new to learn, and that keeps me motivated.”
