Retirement development wins 1st place in local gardening competition

A FirstPort retirement development in Surrey has been awarded first place in this year’s Runnymede in Bloom gardening competition.

The Lodge – an independent-living retirement development in Englefield Green – was awarded first place in the Communal/Community Garden category.

FirstPort Development Manager Ann Johnson said:

“This is the first year we have decided to enter the Runnymede in Bloom competition and we are absolutely thrilled to have won first place for our category.”

Runnymede in Bloom is an annual competition set up by Runnymede Borough Council to celebrate impressive communal and residential gardens across the area.

“Our gardens are so beautifully maintained by our residents and landscapers, and they are a lovely place for both residents and visitors to enjoy,” says Ann.

The Lodge’s gardens, which feature bee-friendly flowers, mature trees and shrubs surrounding manicured lawns with seating areas, were visited by judges from the Borough Council on the 3 July and the residents received the award at a presentation evening the following week.
